Hello!
I’m Simon Hargrave and I’m a poet
I haven’t been able to say that for long
I used to be a management consultant
A builder of businesses
“Lend me your watch and I’ll tell you the time.”
“Give me £500 and I’ll sell it back to you.”

I learnt how to use computers
How to gather facts
Analyse them
Give you options – with a price tag, of course
Format your life along with your hard disc.

Then I realised it wasn’t enough
I needed smiles and sighs
Laughter and joy
Pretty pictures
Smiling faces

And I learnt how to cry all over again
No longer the little boy with grazed knees
But the man with the aching heart
And long memories

And so I found a voice
Deep inside
Ready to speak out clear and strong
And yet, gentle as the breeze

So, join me
Let’s walk together
Share our lives
Our ups and downs
Our victories
Our challenges
Let’s tell our truths
Share the wounds
The tears

Let’s tell all the others we meet
The way it really feels
The way we really want it to be
The only way to live
Open
Proud
Gentle
Respecting the world
Feeling alive
Together
